Check out Vancouver Magazine’s Best Hot Chocolate Recipes article for Jenn Chic’s suggestions on taking your hot chocolate “from cozy to crazy good.”

“At this time of year, it’s especially important to inject a tasty surprise whenever you can,” says Wendy Boys of Cocolico, “like, say, dropping a salted butter caramel into the bottom of your hot chocolate mug.” Use one of her six sauces (at the Cocolico Pop-Up Shop at the LYNNsteven boutique in Gastown until Christmas or at Edible Canada year round). Stir in a dollop of mint & dark chocolate sauce (or peanut butter & dark chocolate or raspberry dark chocolate) to hot milk, top with fresh whipped cream, drizzle with more sauce, and throw in a pretzel stir stick. Just because you can.

Sweet Salty Crunchy Snack Mix

This easy recipe is sure to please any time you need a little salty crunchy. You know what I’m talking about.

1/2 cup (1/2 jar) Cocolico Salted Butter Caramel Sauce
1 cup light brown sugar
3/4 tsp chili flakes
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp cinnamon
2 cups mixed nuts, salted and roasted
1 bag (454 g) mini twist pretzels

Preheat oven to 325 F.

In a medium saucepan on low heat, melt the Cocolico Salted Butter Caramel sauce, brown sugar, and spices.

Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Divide pretzels and nuts evenly between the 2 sheets. Drizzle 1/2 of the spiced caramel sauce over each sheet of pretzels and nuts. Bake at 325 F for 15-18 minutes, stirring twice. The sauce should melt slightly and evenly coat the pretzels and nuts.

Wearing clean rubber dish gloves to protect your hands, break up the pretzels and nuts with a wooden spoon as they cool. Store in air-tight container for up to 2 weeks. (If they last that long!)
